First time in Vietnam and to the political capital.

Airport looks ok

On the roads they start them young on bikes here.

As with all trips, it's my habit to check out the local markets or super marts to get some snacks or drinks.

Langauge was a problem but nothing that can't be overcome with smiles.

Lunch was simple

but dinner with local vietnamese friends was a feast!

[

On some days: it was a loney Pho Bo dinner

a MUST do for tourist in Hanoi: the water puppet show. It's a unique artform only in Vietnam typically perform during monsoon seasons

the real human cast in action

1st taste of local Americanised coffee, taste like normal drip coffee. kinda let down.

finally had some time to try out local coffee.

[

Latte using local beans: Not too bad

Not satisfied, I searched and managed to try the No 1 coffee chain in Vietnam.

The setup was modern looking

Full of coffee machine deco

I ordered the Legend coffee which supposed had some civet cat coffee in it. Came nicely in a presentation tray with Mr Napoleon in it.

[][/URL

You can have it hot or cold. and I tried it both ways

A difference between machine and drip coffee. you can't see the crema but able to see the oils.

The experience was worth it. the coffee has a tinge of cocoa in it but it's really strong. Much like a double expresso. I could not sleep until wee hours in the morning...

Lovely ladies at the counter and you can get the grounds or beans below the cafe.

[/URL

I think I may have gone a bit overboard. smile

cheers

Sounds like a serious machine that you ordered! Do you use a certain type/brand of bottled water or do you filter your own? -MW

The tap water over here is not hard though some trace of cholrine remains.

I would probably only use ditilled or mineral water for tea esp delicate white or green chinese tea. For coffee, most likely I would use an in-box water filter or post bolied water. The super automatic is more for early morning rush when you just want thi...

and so does the coffee. Were there any non-chain coffee places that you saw during your visit?

Unfortunately no. There were many roadside stalls but mostly sold soft drinks.
