With my hometown Bangkok being deadlocked in a political stalemate between two highly polarizing forces, I felt I needed some time away from the trouble, a quick escape of sorts while I still could. The destination is an eastern province about two hours away by car.
After a leisurely half hour on slow boat, we arrived at a small island called Munnork in Rayong province.
The Navy owns the land and rents it out to a resort operator with a concession for a certain number of years. I heard about this island a long time ago but never managed to find time for it.
First wristshot after finishing the welcome drink
Polarizer filter was not used and no post-exposure adjustment was made to these beach shots.
These colors are what the plain eyes see. I think it has to do with the beach being shallow quite far out.
Canopies like this one are scattered around the beach for use by guests.
The view was so inviting I had to remove my PO GMT GoodPlanet for a properly posed shot.
Accommodation is simple. There is nothing luxurious about it. But I was lucky to get a corner unit with visibility to both the north and the east.
Bathroom is too naked though. Privacy is limited to whatever level of blinding that bamboo screen can offer.
Isn't that water inviting? It's time to go out.
My 1.5 years old nephew actually played in the sand for the first time in his life. He was at a beach before but at the time he was too young to move about by himself.
These peacocks are kept as pets. They are free to roam the island and not easily startled by guests.
In fact, they like to approach people and beg for food!
After three days and two nights, walking with a bunch of peacocks feels as natural as being among cats and dogs.
The island itself is not exactly small. But only the northernmost section of the island is habitable with real beach that you saw above. The rest is rocks and trees. So here we are, back to the lobby/restaurant/pool area, waiting for dinner to be served.
Pricey bottled water means one should pay a little bit more and order ice blended coconut or watermelon instead.
Do you like sunsets?
Or do you prefer to get up early for the sunrise?
I don't think I have ever taken a photograph of coffee cups against the beach as the background before.
Peacocks on a beach is also a rare sight for me. This is maybe the first time I see peacocks outside of captivity. I didn't even know peacocks can fly higher up on trees. I thought all they could do is to walk around and jump a bit like ostriches.
With breakfast totally digested, I brought the kayak out for a good tour around the island.
The Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean GMT Goodplanet got it first taste of seawater. It has been with me on a couple of trips last year but those did not involve a beach.
And it did not travel alone this time!
The Seamaster Ploprof must have felt neglected with more wrist time being dedicated to the Planet Ocean Chronograph and now also the Planet Ocean GMT. My Ploprof was made in 2009 and warranty expired last year. I had it tested for water resistance before I left Bangkok just to be safe.
All trips come to an end. This one is not an exception. It was time to return to the harsh reality of life in the capital.
Hope you enjoyed the tour. Thank you.
