Baron alerted me that my 3,000th post was coming up.

Big thanks to Baron for that otherwise I would have missed the occasion totally. You have very sharp eyes.

I celebrated my 1,000th post on the Omega Forum in October 2009.

Then, in November 2011, I had my 2,000th post on the JLC Forum.

Now my 3,000th post is here, on the TimeOut Forum. Isn't it amazing how time flies?

Many watches have been added to the collection during the past 1,000 posts and as many sold, mostly to pay for these new ones. It was a cycle I could never break away from. And obsession with watches can be financially draining as you know. That, together with my claustrophobia, has discouraged me from taking long flights to the fine countries of the world. In my entire life before 2012, I hardly have ever been anywhere. I made two trips to the United States when I was a baby and when I was maybe four years old. Then, when I was 12, I had the chance to visit the northern island of New Zealand with one brief stop in Hong Kong on the way back. I had never left the country since.

Things took an unexpected turn one day in 2011 while hopping from one island to the next in southern Thailand. Motion sickness set in and my travel companions were forced to leave me on a small, unhabited island until I felt better. Alone by myself with two feet in the sand and eyes up on the foliage, I felt humbled by the vastness of the nature and ashamed of how little I have seen of it.

A decision was made in that instance to see more of the world. Some of them were shared as travelogue here on the TimeOut Forum.

September 2012: The trip to the Maldives marked my first trip outside of Thailand in 20 years.

December 2012: A family roadtrip to northern Thailand brought me to some new corners of the provinces I thought I knew.

March 2013: I dreamed of visiting Schaffhausen, Bienne, Le Sentier and other fine cities of Switzerland. I called it my Swiss horological pilgrimage.

May 2013: Omega Thailand had a grand launch of the Seamaster Planet Ocean GMT GoodPlanet on the vacation island of Phuket. As the first customer to order the watch, I was fortunate to join the trip designed for mostly members of the press.

September 2013: Some of my watch friends are also into photography. Together we made a brief visit to the Angkor Wat and other ancient ruins of Siem Reap, Cambodia.

January 2014: With Bangkok stricken by political clashes, I decided to make a quick escape to a hideaway island resort for three days, at least to recharge and clear our minds.

There might have been a couple of other threads on Hong Kong and the Watches & Wonders 2013 show but I can't seem to find them at the moment. But no worries as surely there will be more travel posts from me in the future. I have two major trips coming up late this year. Let's see if I can stop myself from visiting yet another local island or mountain in the mean time.

What is most important now is that I am happy to be here, where I can share on the various forums with members who appreciate the same. Thank you for your friendship. It has been some great years.

And that's it for my 3,000th post.

Ruckdee
