I'm going to be on a long diet after this...

I was lucky to be invited to join several PuristS for an epic 'meat' dinner at chi Spacca restaurant.  This restaurant opened last year by Mario Batali, Nancy Silverton and Joe Bastianich and is located next to their Osteria Mozza and Pizzeria Mozza restaurants on Melrose Avenue.

Chi Spacca is a small intimate restaurant with an open kitchen.





We started with the affettati misti, a selection of coppa, lardo grissini, oregano salame, trappist salame, trotter fritti and butcher's pate.



warm crusty bread was served with the charcuterie




A plate of the culatello which is cured for 15 months!




The pano bianco with bistecca drippings.




Cut into the bread and you can see the delicious heart stopping bistecca drippings oozing out.  It was delicious!



A side of pickled Italian peppers with cetara anchovies and olives to balance out the charcuterie.




A fantastic razor clams with garlic and olive oil.




Our main course started with the 42 ounce tomahawk pork chop with fennel pollen.  Surprisingly we all agreed this was the best dish of the night (even though all the dishes were great).











And an order of lamb neck stracotto with preserved lemon.  The braised lamb was tender and flavorful.




And something I was really looking forward to, the 42 ounce costata all fiorentina which is a prime dry-aged bone-in New York.







Some veggies to balance things out, a creamed corn with fresh cracked pepper




And roasted cauliflower




Bordering on a food coma, but still always room for dessert.  Chocolate caramel tart with whipped cream. 




And a passionfruit coconut panna cotta.





I think I'm going to be on a diet for the next month or two, or three!  LOL

The pano bianco with drippings sounds a bit heavy. The rib-eye looks delicious. How would you rate the steak compared to other places you've been to? -MW

The bone-in NY strip was very good, but I still like the rib eye at Mastro's better. If you go, I highly recommend the tomahawk pork chop. It was delicious. Regards, ED-209

That looks so good. And the dishes kept on getting better. They were fabulous charcuterie plates but then hot plates just looked even more amazing. It'd be hard to pace yourself by not eating all the charcuterie and save room for the main courses.

During my visit two weeks ago, a local PuristS member took me to Basix Cafe in West Hollywood. It was decent and reasonably priced. I still go to Wurstkuche and The Pie Hole, for sausage and pie, every time I come down to LA. During my visit last week; Ha...

I've been to Wurstkuche a few years ago. The sausages were good, but I'm kinda territorial and don't like the community seating. Plus the area is kinda sketchy. The Pie Hole sounds good though. Regards, ED-209

. . . in Pasadena. Excellent Lebanese cuisine, fabulous beef and lamb, loads of vegetarian dishes, and best of all, very reasonably priced for the quality served. Let me put it this way: Dad, Uncle Jake, and myself make the trip from Camarillo to Pasadena...
