Cool that you visited Din Tai Fung in Taipei. We were lucky to be treated to a lunch during our visit to the Audemars Piguet Taipei 101 Boutique and IMO, the Taipei restaurant we visited was phenomenally great and lived up to expectations. However the two here in Arcadia are just average. Did you try the red bean version for dessert?

Patrick_y visits Taipei and tries out a few of famous eateries. Seven days and about three kilograms later, Patrick shares his experiences of the popular eateries in Taipei and sees if they measure up against the hype. Ding Tai Fung is a famous dumpling h...
Lack of consistency !

Tried them in Singapore and China (Shanghai) ... and I must say they tasted much better in Shanghai Overall they are ok , however, there are much better place in Beijing and Shanghai, although less "trendy" Perhaps cos it contain a smidgen of gutter oil ....
I haven't tried them in Singapore nor Shanghai...

I agree, there are places that are just as good as Ding Tai Fung that are perhaps less acclaimed. I just haven't found one yet that's very consistent for me neither.

I didn't see a huge difference between the Taipei stores and the Arcadia locations. The Arcadia locations seemed to have significantly larger portions than their Taiwanese counterparts. Quality between the Taipei and Arcadia locations for the actual soup ...

Absolutely love the place...

I eat there nearly every week and find it consistently great. There are several locations in HK, and the only disadvantage vs. the Taipei and Kuala Lumpur locations is the significantly higher price here. The Michelin star is deserved IMO. Dave
We don't have one in San Francisco...
By: patrick_y : September 26th, 2014-10:54
There are two in Arcadia (ironically at the same location, 30 meters apart). And one in Costa Mesa. This is all in Southern California whereas San Francisco is in Northern California.
The one in Costa Mesa...

Is the one in Costa Mesa any good? That's the closest one to you, so I'm hoping that one will become very good.
Ugh, I don't like to queue.

Massive crowds, screaming kids, lots of noise... Not usually my idea of a good environment for dinner nor lunch. Rock n roll venue, probably; but not for a meal.
The food in Taiwan is just great!

Taiwan was a bit of an emergency family meeting. The food and service in Taiwan is just great. Had an extended family lunch meeting at an elegant Western restaurant in a very expensive shopping mall. Private room, over a dozen courses, private bathroom, e...
I ate at several of the DTF in Taiwan and China
By: AnthonyTsai : September 28th, 2014-14:57
I didn't think they were as good as the ones in Arcadia, California :) But then again, I think DTF is overrated. There are some small local Chinese restaurants in my area where the xaio lum baos taste as good as those from DTF. Cheers, Anthony

Let me give you some more ideas... Like... Did you know if you put a watch on your dog's collar or paw, he or she automatically becomes a WATCHDOG? If I think of any good ideas, I'll let you know!
