A Time and a Meal to Remember

Oct 31, 2014,19:00 PM

My wife and I came to the state of Morales Mexico to experience a Day of the Dead celebration. We're staying at the La Mancha B&B, owned by a friend. I'd like to share just a little about what this event entails.

We collected marigold flowers in a nearby field,

threaded them into garlands, and created a display of our moms and dads and other loved ones. We put candles and other items on the table.

Then we walked around the village, admiring other displays in public areas of hotels and private homes.

And then we went to several cemeteries and walked through them, watching as families cleaned, painted and remembered.

My relatives are in Paraiso, Tabasco ... But this is close enough for now

After this rather emotional afternoon, we went into Cuernavaca for dinner. We chose the Casa Rivera, in the house formerly owned by the famous Mexican actor Cantinflas.

Approx 13 pesos per US dollar, so divide prices by 13...

View from our table out at the cathedral

Oops, avocado tower fell over during composition of this shot. Underneath is meat marinated in line juice

This is sea bass on roasted corn entree

Grilled Beef with avocado, pepper and beans

My giant prawns grilled and placed on a bed of watercress and tomato with a brown sugar butter sauce and flaming mescal

The bar

Poolside smoking section

Kitchen view table for special chef dinners

Special remembrance for Cantinflas, and families of restaurant workers

Time to head for home

Where our watch dog awaits (t-shirt due to recent surgery)

And where we think about those who are gone and not forgotten.

This dish was created by a group of gourmet food loving nuns in Mexico who also developed molé It has about 25 ingredients but can be summarized as deliciosa. It's a large mild chile stuffed with a mixture of chopped/minced meat, apple, raisins, etc fried...
