We spotted them when we first got into Hong Kong. I mentioned it to the staff at the Executive Lounge and one person thought it was an eagle. Can you tell what kind of bird it is? -MW

Thanks for the answer I think you are right. I just googled 'Black Kite' and the tail resembles the silhouette of the bird in my pic. It said they like to catch thermals in the sky and glide around, just like in the vid. Curious on how you identified it! ...

I googled large common birds of prey in HK, the top three list came up, googled images with Black Kite and these came up: and the wing shape, feather layout and design was the same therefore concluded has to be the Black Kite. HAGWE :-) S ...

You nailed it...

Hello Bobbe, At first we saw a group of 3 of these birds flying around. The rest of our time at Pacific Place this bird flew solo. Can you tell what kind of bird it is? ...

I think it's a falcon of some sort.

There are only 522 kinds of birds in HK, according to Wikipedia of which 4 are falcons.

They are cool looking birds...

I google image them and they are cool looking birds. Found out that they are common in Hong Kong flying around preying on fish in Victoria Harbour. -MW

After some quick investigation, my guess is the black kite.

Here's a link below. Looks like the population of black kites in HK peaks in the winter. By the way, what phone did you use to shoot this? I'm really impressed with the quality of the photos and video. Birds are a frustratingly tiny subject, which is why ...
