I thought that was a horrible mistake…
There are some singers who are just on another level - Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, Freddie Mercury to name but three and, in my opinion, it’s a horrible mistake to cover one of their songs so close to the original. You just get nailed. The only way to pull it off is to provide a whole new take on the song and really put it into your own style. Alas, George didn’t do this.

. . . but when I checked for other musicians whose birthday would've been today, Radka Toneff came up. A favorite of mine . . . what a set of pipes she had. She would've been 71 had she not taken her own life forty-one years ago. 😌

From 3:25 onwards you can see David Bowie and Seal watching the rehearsal. Both very impressed! I have never seen him. My favourite song would be "Faith" an like Abel: "Careless whisper"! 😃

The original by Freddie Mercury is certainly the better version.
I think George Michael was very touched by the lyrics of this song. I personally like cover versions alot, like this one, first heard in the movie "The big Lebowski". There is a ver nice mood in this version.
