Hi Casey,

That farm is a mystery.  You can see it from a major toll highway and it's impossibly clean and whitewashed all year long.  At first I figured it was Amish but that was while driving by at 70mph.  It's modern, not likely to be Amish.  The religious signage (which is angled toward the highway so motorists can see it) might be a clue; it appears several of the white buildings could be dormitories, so perhaps there is some kind of religious based farming community living here?  I really don't know.  They are pretty secluded though, that's for sure.  It took some sleuthing for me to get to this place (It's inaccessible from the turnpike and requires a lengthy diversion through the countryside).

This was my first time with Pan F.  I did a little research on the net and some knowledgeable people claimed the actual speed was closer to 25 than to 50 so I tried that first.  I think I was at f/11 and 1/60 or so.  There is detail in all of the brightest areas of snow and the shadows are good also.  The grain is super fine too so I'm looking forward to trying this film in the darkroom.

About the scans.  Honestly it's a mystery to me.  I can scan an image that looks great in Photoshop and then save it as jpeg and it changes.  Then I upload it and it changes again.  By the time I see the image using a web browser the snow is medium gray and the image has little contrast.  So this time I ended up uploading the images three times until I saw what I wanted in a web browser (which doesn't look good at all in PS).  Go figure.  ;-)

Cheers,

Jeff

I've been meaning to photograph this farm for a few years but wanted a good blanket of snow to set it off. Yesterday I had the time and the snow. The farm is at the dead end of a road near Philadelphia. I explored around the buildings and saw they had two...

Really like that first image...

and such clean scans... very nice. Looks like the owners are running a good operation... the feed tanks look new and the buildings well maintained... actually quite a few buildings for a family operation... must be a community or larger scale property??? ...

Used to pass it when going up the Turnpike, going to Harrisburg and Gettysburg. That repent sign has been up for over 30 years. Darn, eludes me, I think it is an Amish Chicken farm, but they do have some cattle. Did you see the Hugh fans by the long barne...

Thanks Don

Hey Don, You're right, that's the place. I didn't see fans or smell chickens so I'm not sure. Beautiful spot though. Jeff

Thanks Cen! [nt]
