Exploring San Diego's Embarcadero, Part 4
Aug 13, 2014,10:43 AM
This is the fourth part of my report on taking a stay-at-home vacation along San Diego's bay.
Some Purists might not be the water-loving type, or have a more exercise-oriented lifestyle, or a different budget mindset. For those of you who prefer physical exertion rather than exercising your credit card, this episode is for you.
Take your bike around the bay. You can see nature.
You might catch a car show (look for the Wandering Purist)
You might visit the SS Recruit, a land-locked pseudo-ship stuck in the pavement near Liberty Station.
You can see artworks commemorating San Diego's role in many naval activities.
or just stretch out on the sand and have a nap or cold drink.
Or as I like to do - sit and watch the world go by.
There's a ferry that takes pedestrians and bikes back and forth to Coronado. Inexpensive, or if before 9 am, free!
Or just stroll (or jog) along the waterfront.
Under the bow of the Midway carrier museum.
Spanish Landing park.
If you keep going in this direction you'll come to the old lighthouse (aka Cabrillo National Monument) where for $5 a carful you can see the history of San Diego and enjoy a great view of the harbor!
You can go down on the westward side and see the NEW lighthouse (remember the movie Top Gun; much filmed here)
and walk around in the tide pools.
or you might see Me and Mrs C exercising the Lotus, pretending we are on Highway 1 at Big Sur or someplace remote and dangerous.
I am not going to get into the San Diego zoo, Sea World, our many micro-breweries, the Mexican sights south of the border (10 miles away).
You can discover them yourself should you come to town. Maybe we can meet up, have a drink, and talk watches!
(I guess I need to get a purple shirt to fit in here)
or we could just go out whale watching and have a good time.
Ok, that's about it, I have to get myself back into the real world.
Cheers,
Cazalea
