Grand Canyon South Rim: Inside the Desert View Watch Tower (PART2)

The Desert Watch Tower is in the style of a Anasazi Native American Indian tower.

From the main entrance (known as the Kiva Room) you can pick up souvenirs or head over to the stairwell to ascend the tower:








opi Native American Indian Fred Kabotie painted various traditional Hopi stories and ceremonies in the interior of the tower while artist Frank Greer painted the petroglyphs.




The very top of the tower is a ladder for a rooftop observation deck but it's closed off to the public.  Windows around allow natural light to enter the tower:

Note the serpent like drawings, it's inspired by the Hopi Snake Dance.

The ceiling of the tower is made from the old logs of the old Grand View hotel.




 




While admiring the artwork, you can stop and check out the views overlooking the Grand Canyon...
