I think
that many times people say they are ‘fine’ even not being fine because if they
say ‘not good’ the asking person will immediately follow with a ‘What happened?’,
since it shows ‘concern’ for the interlocutor.
Regarding
the theories you mentioned, they are aligned with the author of the article,
and I’m aligned with you about being busy with a game or watching a fine boxing
match on TV. When it shows up I also don’t have time for anything else.
