The food in Taiwan is just great!

Taiwan was a bit of an emergency family meeting.
The food and service in Taiwan is just great. Had an extended family lunch meeting at an elegant Western restaurant in a very expensive shopping mall. Private room, over a dozen courses, private bathroom, etc. Food was elegant, well prepared, and tasty.
And at the end of the luncheon, when the bill came, I almost felt there was a mistake, it was incredibly inexpensive.
There was also a restaurant in the countryside that the driver who noted the family was hungry saw and suggested I eat there. He had never eaten there either. When the family got in, I was a little surprised, the chairs were mismatched, a dog was running across the restaurant, crowded with patrons at 2PM, etc. The whole thing was very unexpected. But, the food was fantastic. I still remember the pumpkin vermicelli, the best vermicelli dish I had ever had, and I don't even normally like vermicelli. Superb.
All in all. I don't think I had a bad meal when I was in Taiwan. The DIng Tai Fung was good, but it certainly wasn't as memorable as the countryside diner that was in the middle of nowhere.
