TUFFKASE Airshield and Tuffskin for iPad AIR

Hello all!

I usually use a thin tpu case with my devices but it's always good to have a stronger and more durable case when traveling.  A A good friend who is really into gadgets recommended a case that works really well.  They make an assortment of cases so I got two different ones to check out.  The Tuffkase Airshield and Tuffskin:

The Tuffkase came with instructions but if you use any type of case it's easy to install.

Here's the one I was using on a daily basis, a ultra thin case with relief cuts for the magnetic flip cover:

Let's start with the heavy duty Tuffkase Airshield.  It's a silicon one piece design and covers the home button of the iPad Air:

Back is solid and has splines on the back.  This combined with it's texture provides a good grip.  It's material is solid enough not to come loose but soft enough to slip it over the device.

It may seem bulky but when installed it actually still feels light.

It goes onto the iPad Air pretty quickly:

One thing to note are the ports for the camera, ear bud, and charger.  From the picture below, you can see how much protection the iPad will get with this Tuffkase Airshield.  The camera port is deep but does not effect the photos or video taken:

The lock out slider button are exposed but the volume buttons are covered.

The charging port for the case is wide enough and cut cleanly for charging.  Since there wasn't any extra flash around the case, you can tell it's well made.  The manufacturer claims it can take a 4 foot drop!

The second Tuffkase has a dual protective system.

It's 2 parts consist of a hard plastic shell which is then surrounded by a TPU/rubberized material similar to the case we looked at above.  On the back of this one is a handy flip out stand.  It flips out with one hand and locks out solidly.  The sides are dished out so it makes holding the tablet very comfortable.

This is what the out case looks like:

and the two part inner case:

Simple to install...you place the iPad into the back case and top frame...

gently press it in...

and snap it shut.  You'll notice that the Tuffkase has several plastic protrusions in it's design.  This is to keep the outer case held tightly together with the inner case.  Once on, it's solid and the iPad doesn't shift around in the case.

Once the inner case is assembled, you slip it onto the outer case and line it up together:

If you are using a screen protector, there's no problem using it with either Tuffkase cases.

I've been using the cases for a week now and IMO both work well.  Which one is better?  It depends on what you need the case to do.  Both offer high levels of protection.  The Airshield is simple but the dual cased Tuffskin has a the useful flip out stand and finger grooves.  If you just want a rugged case then the Airshield is the way to go.

Tuffkase has the cases for the iPad and their site lists other devices coming soon.  If you are using a Nexus or Galaxy Tab, take a look into these, I think they're great!

I am using the Tuffskin more. The quick deploying built in stand works well and comes in handy when I am at home. You should definitely get one! -MW
