And your comment on hodinkee being a great resource for beginners is spot on, at least in the past. From my formative years, these articles stood out (and still do now) with combinations of great photography, interesting perspectives, and technical explanations -

Unfortunately, I'm afraid newcomers to the world of watches won't find articles like those anymore...I stopped following last year when they put out a succession of lifestyle pieces, including one where they showcased the watches of someone whose "whole life is about refusing to be put in a box" which turned out to be two nautiluses (nautili?) and two rolexes (rolicies?)... Nothing against the person or their watches of course, but the writer should have known how jarringly see-through they made that puff piece.
I'm very glad that there is yet a place where interesting and technical discussions can be had with civility (most times) and frankness. Long live WPS!
