Xin Dau Ji

On the Kowloon side of Hong Kong I was disappointed to hear that my favorite Suckling Pig restaurant had closed. We were recommended to try this place:
Xin Dau Ji:
It's off a side street of the busy Nathan Road north of Austin Road. The downstairs has a window of their roasted meats with a fire pit, front reseption podium, and these live seafood tanks:
Our first item on the menu was a cold appetizer of pickled cucmbers. They had a nice light garlic flavor in a semi sweet sauce.
The standout was the Roast Suckling Pig:
Extra thin and super crispy...deliciious!
How did they get such a crunchy texture to it?
The secret is the chef roasting the pig. He works over the open flame to get the right amount of fire to the suckling pig. His efforts really showed in the dish.
My other favorite at Xin Dau Ji is the Crab and Rice with egg whites steamed in a lotus leaf. The flavors of the crab goes into the rice and gives it a really nice flavor.
Another of their famous dishes, the Pan Fried Yellow Noodles. It looks kind of plain but it was good
The house specialty...Fried Fish and Corn sauce:
Sounds generic but it was really well executed!
The JurJur Lettuce came out pretty good too:
This one I didn't care for even though it's hard to find on the menu...It's the rinds of the Chinese Pomelo over bok choy.
